Friends of the Oval
The "Friends of the Oval" Foundation was re-established in 2004 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the long-term viable financial support of the Roseville Ice Center (which includes the Guidant John Rose Speedskating Oval).
The original "Friends of the Oval" Foundation was formed to encourage, support, and help fund the speedskating oval in Roseville Minnesota. After successfully lobbying and fund raising efforts, the foundation was disbanded.
In October 2004, major ice chiller problems caused the speedskating oval to shut down for the season. The following year of activist support re-established the need for an overall organization to help develop a viable long-term plan for cost-effective operation of the facility, in addition to the immediate repair needs. Thus. the "Friends of the Oval" Foundation re-emerged.
Guidant Corporation, generously provided desperately need funds to repair the ice chiller system, along with a matching funds program for long-term financially viable operation. Distribution of these funds, along with ongoing fund raising activity for the matching grants program, is managed by the "Friends of the Oval" Foundation.
The Foundation sponsers several different gala events.
