2009-2010 Skating Season

If you are considering joining the Midway Speedskating Club, the following thoughts might be helpful:

If your ready to join the Midway Speedskating Club, then there are a few forms that need to filled out.

2009-2010 Fall Kick Off Flyer

Become a registered member of US Speedskating (yearly fee required)

Every skater must be a registered member of US Speedskating in order to join/participate in a US Speedskating club/event. Basic registration can be done on-line, or by printing out a manual form and mailing/faxing it. Historically, there have been more options available using the manual form.

Please consider full family registration. The Midway Speedskating Club is a parent-run organization that depends upon parents to volunteer for various functions. Two common functions are timers and judges. Parent volunteers stand to the side of the ice surface to time skaters and judge who was 1st, 2nd, ... Even though these functions are really "off-ice", they are considered "on-ice" functions by US Speedskating. As such, US Speedskating would like everyone involved in these functions, and many other functions, to also become members of US Speedskating. The primary purpose for parent registration is insurance coverage. There is a "maximum financial cap" available (review both the manual and on-line forms). Sign up everyone in your family and make it a real family affair.

US Speedskating is asking skaters to register as "competing athletes" and applicable parents/volunteers to register as "full individual members".

Reduced rates are available for 1st year competing athletes.

Fill in an application to join GMSA (Greater Minnesota Speedskating Association)

US Speedskating is broken into various regions across the USA. Each region is represented by a Speedskating Association, which in-turn has many different Speedskating Clubs under it. So to become a member of the Midway Speedskating Club, you also have to join GMSA (Greater Minnesota Speedskating Association) and sign their waiver. GMSA has membership fees as well, but Midway Speedskating will pay those fees on behalf of each skater registered in the Club. In summary, the GMSA forms need to be filled out and submitted with the Midway Speedskating registration form. No additional fees will be collected for GMSA membership.

Sign the Midway Speedskating Club Code-of-Conduct

The Midway Speedskating Club code-of-conduct defines proper and improper behavior for skaters and their families. This document is an abbreviated form which references the full version posted on the members-only webpage. The full code-of-conduct elaborates on the Club's disciplinary processes in case there is an infraction. Members are expected to abide by the policy.

Reminder - Do NOT pay the GMSA fee. The Midway Speedskating Club will pay that fee on behalf of each skater.

Pay a deposit/s to the Midway Speedskating Club for uniforms, skinsuits, etc... (one-time fee which can vary depending on skater interest)

The Midway Speedskating Club provides uniforms, skinsuits, etc... for each skater, but does require a nominal deposit.

Long-Track - Please submit a $50 deposit. This will include:

  • Practice skinsuit
  • Competition skinsuit

Short-Track (optional program if the skater is interested) - Please submit an additional $50 deposit. This will include:

  • Competition skinsuit

Other fees

Long-Track Speedskating Meets require a skater to have a number pined onto the back of their clothing. To keep the skaters skinsuit from getting ripped/torn, each skater must purchase a matching-color bib to pull over their skinsuit. This provides a place to pin their competition numbers on. Bib cost is nominal ($10-20).

Meet fees, transportation, lodging, food, etc... also add cost.
