Metro Girls (Metropolitan Girls) Speedskating
The Metro Girls program started in the 1990s and ran until the end of the 2007-2008 skating season. It was originally created to offer high school girls equal sports opportunities to existing boys programs. In the early years, girls could earn a high school letter. As the years progressed, high school sports opportinities for girls expanded to the point where title 9 issues were no longer a concern. Participation dropped off over time and other factors came into play. Eventially, it became no longer feasible to continue with the program.
